ADIEU AU LANGAGE #01: Contesto fisico vs Contesto virtuale

Si può ritrovare nello sviluppo delle tecniche di riproduzione e stampa, a cavallo tra il XVIII e XIX secolo, il seme della rivoluzione culturale avvenuta pochi decenni più tardi con l’avvento della fotografia. Acqueforti dapprima e fotografie poi, divennero il veicolo principale della comunicazione delle immagini, inaugurando un nuovo rapporto di relazioni tra edificio e contesto architettonico: tanto le costruzioni di nuova realizzazione, quanto quelle più antiche, videro accostarsi al tradizionale contesto fisico, determinato dal manufatto stesso e dagli edifici adiacenti, un contesto virtuale, composto dalla somma e dalla diffusione delle riproduzioni dell’edificio. L’articolo esamina come tale processo abbia modificato negli ultimi due secoli il linguaggio architettonico, condizionando fortemente la struttura urbana delle nostre città.
With the evolution of reproductive techniques and printing, at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, one recognizes the beginnings of a cultural revolution, which occurred a few decades later, with the advent of photography. The principal vectors for communicating images were first etchings and then, photographs, ushering in a new relationship between buildings and the architectural context: thus, newly-built buildings, as well as older ones, were perceived not only through their conventional physical context, determined by the construction itself and by the adjacent buildings, but also through a virtual context, made up of the sum total and spread in circulation of reproductions of the building itself. The article examines how, over the past two centuries, this process has changed the language of architecture, thereby profoundly shaping the urban structure of our cities.
FLAVIO GRAVIGLIA
Architetto e dottorando in “Paesaggi della Città Contemporanea” è laureato in Progettazione Architettonica presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Roma Tre con una tesi sull’influenza e le relazioni tra fotografia e architettura, ha approfondito gli studi presso la Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia sostenendo esami di Estetica e Storia della Fotografia. Parallelamente agli studi universitari ha lavorato come fotografo, pubblicando ed esponendo in contesti nazionali e internazionali. Ha vissuto a Parigi studiando all’École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville. Attualmente svolge attività di ricerca e assistenza docenti presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Roma Tre e l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Malaquais.
Architect and PhD candidate in “Contemporary City Landscapes”, obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Roma Tre University with his Master’s thesis on the influence and connections between photography and architecture. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, where he took exams in Aesthetics and the History of Photography. At the same time, he worked as a photographer, and had his work published and exhibited in various national and international settings. He has lived in Paris where he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville and is, currently, conducting research at the Faculty of Architecture of Roma Tre University and at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Malaquais.
