FIGURE OUT

Questo lavoro è stato realizzato durante la residenza a Prato per il progetto “La Via Della Cina 2019”. Con entrambi i mezzi mi sono posta delle domande sull’essere umano, la sua visibilità e la sua identità all’interno del quartiere del Marcolotto Zero, ponendo l’accento sul contesto di produzione industriale, il contesto di illegalità, la sensazione di distacco dalle proprie radici e da un superamento delle differenze economiche.

Il titolo Figure out porta con sé due messaggi: dapprima l’atto di capire andando a interrogare e indagare le ragioni dei problemi e dei conflitti che possono essere percepiti in quel quartiere; segue il Figure-out, Figura – fuori, che evoca letteralmente il verificarsi dell’esclusione (en. out = escluso /esterno /senza).

La presenza e la visibilità dell’essere umano nel quartiere è molto forte.

Riesco a sentire le persone attorno a me, sento che sono presenze emotivamente e culturalmente molto forti, ma non riesco a conoscerle.

Sono esseri umani la cui identità sembra così decisa ed evidente ma non un sé totalmente invisibile. Mi piacerebbe incontrarne alcuni, ma non posso. Li guardo attraverso la macchina fotografica e dedico loro la mia attenzione e il mio sguardo, con delicatezza e rispetto. Questo è l’unico incontro che riusciamo ad avere, ma per me è comunque molto importante.

Queste sono le persone che ho di fronte: persone che non riescono a sfuggire dalla situazione in cui si trovano e probabilmente nemmeno dalla loro mentalità. Quindo chi sono? Non lo so, perchè forse non lo sanno nemmeno loro.

È una questione davvero fragile che voglio mostrare con il mio lavoro.

This work was carried out during the fellowship in Prato for the project “La Via Della Cina 2019”. By both media I asked myself questions about the human being, his visibility and his identity within the Marcolotto Zero district, focusing on the context of the industrial production, the context of illegality, the feeling of detachment from one’s roots and from overcoming economic differences.

The title “Figure out” holds two meanings: first the act of understanding by questioning and investigating the reasons for the problems and conflicts that can be perceived in that neighbourhood; then the ‘Figure-out’, ‘Figure – outside’, which literally evokes the occurrence of exclusion (en. out = excluded/external/without).

The presence and visibility of the human being in the neighbourhood is very strong.

I can feel the people around me, I feel that they are emotionally and culturally very strong presences, but I can’t get to know them.

They are human beings whose identity seems so strong and evident but not a totally invisible self. I’d like to meet some of them, but I can’t. I look at them through the camera and give them my attention and my gaze, with delicacy and respect. This is the only encounter we can have, but it is still very important to me.

These are the people I have in front of me: people who cannot escape from the situation they are in and probably not even from their mentality. So who are they? I don’t know, because maybe they don’t know either.

It’s a really fragile issue that I want to show with my work.

Magda Typiak si è laureata presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Danzica (Master of Arts) e presso la Facoltà di Belle Arti di Torun. Nel 2016 ha studiato presso il Dipartimento di Film e Fotografia dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera a Milano. Le sue opere sono state esposte in mostre e festival in Polonia e ed altre città tra cui Berlino, Atene, Vienna e l’Istituto di Cultura Polacca a Minsk (Bielorussia). Nel 2015 ha preso parte al Festival “Under Construction” di Varsavia e nel 2016 il suo video le è valso il premio principale in un festival internazionale di arte studentesca presso la Wozownia Art Gallery di Torun.

I film, le fotografie e le installazioni che crea sono creazioni post-percettive. Nei suoi pezzi minimalisti (delicate decostruzioni di spazi) pone domande sull’identità, sia la sua, sia quella collettiva.
